Merry & Plaid Holiday House Tour

I’m thrilled to be participating in Jen Rizzo’s holiday house walk link party for the third year. This is my favorite post of the entire season. Jen’s house tour began last week and featured over 30 homes with beautiful holiday decor. It is so amazing you need to check it out if you haven’t already.  I can’t believe you get so much inspiration in one place. Last year my theme was perfectly plaid and I used red, black, buffalo check and plaid patterns to decorate my tree.  Well I just couldn’t totally give up that plaid because I loved it so much so I decided to do my bedroom in plaid.

I’ve never decorated my bedroom for Christmas before.  I have always envisioned my room decor being quite soft and romantic similar to the tree I do in all white or the one I did in pinks and golds.  However, I just loved that plaid so much and got such a great response from it I wanted to throw it in somewhere.  I thought my room would be a great place since it was out of the way.  I have a first floor bedroom that is off the main living space.  It can easily be closed off from the rest of the house. So sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy the tour.

Merry and plaid bedroom

I wanted to put a little tree in my room this year and I’m so glad I did.  I’m not sure who loved it more me or my husband.  He wakes up and goes through the house turning on all the Christmas lights.  It makes the house so cheery when I get up to make the school lunches.

Plaid, buffalo check, and red ornaments

I reused the square boxes and ribbon from last year.  Everyone in my family knows to save my “pretty” boxes.  Of course the round boxes are new from Sugar Paper this year.  I just love everything they make.

Beautiful packages finish off the look

This plaid tree skirt is from Pottery Barn and is personalized with our family name.

Merry and plaid bedroom with red and white wreaths

This year, I really made an effort to take decorations I already had and tried to work them in a different way instead of buying new items.  Those wreaths on the mirrors were wreaths I used for a wedding reception.  I used the ribbon from the tree, red flowers, and picks to add a Christmas look.

White wreaths with red Christmas accents.

The buffalo check throw and plaid euro shams are from Pottery Barn.  The small black buffalo check pillow was from Target last year.

Gorgeous Christmas dog!

My 7 year old tea cup Maltese is the baby of the family and is completely spoiled rotten.

Breakfast in bed

What a great place to enjoy a cup of coffee and read your morning paper.

Red, gold, and white dining room tablescape

I started doing this table in gold, white and greenery, but it just needed something more.  When I added my Lenox Christmas salad plates I knew that it needed that hint of red so I kept going.  I added the red polka dot napkins at every other place setting and the red flowers in the centerpiece.  That is just what it needed.

I love the crystal on the table

The plates are Eternal by Lenox and the crystal stemware is also by Lenox and has a gold rim.

I hope you enjoyed the first part of the tour.  I will be uploading part 2 later this week.  The color scheme in the next tour is completely different so I hope you like it. I’m done decorating, but shopping is another story. Oh the stress.  But I need to remember the reason we celebrate Christmas in the first place and try to chill out.  Thank you for stopping by.  I would love for you to check out my social media where I post daily inspiration.  Follow me on Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.

Isaiah 9:6-7 New King James Version (NKJV)

6 For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

Holiday Tray Filled 2 Different Ways

Creating centerpieces are one of my favorite things to decorate for the holidays.  They really dress up dining tables, coffee tables, and end tables. I love getting inspiration from other amazing bloggers, Instagram feeds and Pinterest.  However, you don’t have to use expensive  items to have a fabulous final product. My friend Michelle, from, and I are collaborating today to bring you a special post.  We both purchased the same tray from Target, but we are each going to decorate it differently. Check out her tray at the above link. This way, you can get multiple ways to style the tray.  You will be able to get ideas and see the tray two different ways, but you will also get the advantage of meeting a new blogger who has amazing material.  When you are over on her blog, search around and enjoy her motivational pieces that I love so much.

Holiday Tray Filled 2 ways

Now lets jump into decorating this beautiful tray. I chose to only use materials I purchased at Target and fill in with items I already had.  I wanted to show you that you can have beautiful Christmas decor without breaking the bank.  I got the greenery and the candles in the dollar spot at Target. The cranberry hurricane lamp was with the rest of the Christmas decor from Target.  They also had one with gold accessories if that is more your style.  Let’s get started decorating this tray!

Let’s Get Decorating!

Mirrored Target Tray

You can purchase this mirrored tray from Target’s online store.

Here are the items I purchased from Target to use in decorating the tray.  Most of the items I found in the dollar spot section right when you walk in Target.  I always check this section for great deals and cute items.

Decorations for my tray

Here are all the items I used to complete my look.

I started with the largest item in the center and then used the smaller items to fill in.

Hurricane candle holder

This hurricane candle holder also comes in gold.

After adding the hurricane candle holder, I added the greenery.  The tiny pinecones made it look more realistic.

Tray with greenery

Here you can really start to see what look I’m going for.

You could leave your tray as is.  However, If you follow my blog, you know I love mercury glass.  I collect it and use it year round, but at Christmas time it makes a huge appearance. I already owned the mercury glass balls, but the candles are from the dollar section at Target.

Mercury glass accessories

The mercury glass adds so much to this centerpiece.

Tray works well with the tree

I used this centerpiece on my kitchen island. It is the perfect compliment to the tree in the background.

I hope you got some ideas on how to decorate a centerpiece.  If you get a chance, check out Michelle’s site as well. She has tons of great advice and ideas on how to live life to the fullest. Part 2 of my holiday tour will be coming on Wednesday.  I hope you noticed my new logo.  I have been busy working with Top Shelf Design. They created my fabulous logo and monogram.  I’m so happy with the new look. If you’re in need of a design firm; check them out.  You won’t be sorry.  They are so professional, have a quick turn around time, and made sure I got exactly what I wanted.

Yours Truly Jenn Holiday House Tour

I am so excited to be doing my first Christmas home tour.  Thank you Kelly for opening your home and allowing me to participate in your house tour.  I really enjoy the holidays and I try not to get stressed with the hustle and bustle that can go along with Christmas.  My home is a place of peace for my family and me and I hope you will feel that as you are viewing.

9' Hallmark tree

Our main tree with Hallmark and homemade ornaments

This is our 9′ main tree in our living room.  If I only put up one tree, this would be it.  I have all the Hallmark ornaments, homemade ornaments, and ornaments I’ve collected over the years on this tree.  My kids decorate this tree by themselves.  They leave the decorative themed trees for me.

My mantel is simple, but elegant.  I have to work around the tv, but I like the way it turned out.  This year I decided to keep with the traditional green, red, and white color theme.

I have several other trees that I decorate.  However, I’m not going to post them all in this house tour.  I try to do a theme and color coordinate the trees around that theme. I decided to do our den in a winter wonderland theme.  I used silver and white and a ton of glitter.  I don’t know if I will be able to vacuum up all this glitter.
