Journal for your kids

Have you ever thought about making a journal to each one of your kids and your husband?  In 2006, I started a journal for each person in my family. So I have had these journals now for ten years.  My kids are 16 and 14 now. They know about them, but they don’t know what I write in them. My intention was to write special memories, things I wanted them to know when they’re all grown up, and little life lessons that might slip through the cracks.  At the time I started the journals, I was having some trouble with my thyroid. I just started thinking what an amazing thing it would be to have a record for each family member if something ever happened to me unexpectedly.  Then it became a thing I just kept up with.

Have you ever journaled for your family?

Obviously, I don’t write in them every day or even every week.  Sometimes I’m really bad with it and then sometimes I will keep at it for a while. You will notice that some of the time the journals are all taken out and written in on the same day.  Whatever works for you and gets it done.  I keep them by my bedside table so when I think of something I want to write then they’re accessible.

My son’s journal started to come unraveled and I wanted to transfer his to a new journal before the whole thing fell apart.  When I started rewriting his into the new journal I reread some of the memories.  Like how my father in law taught him to ride a bike, that he could swim at 3, and make a ten foot basket at four.  Some really cool things that were really neat to read back and remember.  I think I will give my daughter hers on her wedding day and my son when he graduates from college.  If you haven’t done something like this yet you might want to think about doing this or whatever works for your family.  It literally takes 2-3 minutes to jot down a couple sentences in a journal.  You would be amazed at how little a time commitment it takes and how amazing the outcome will be.

My daughter has had a lot going on in her junior year so lots of things have been in her journal lately.  I expect to be writing a lot in her journal senior year as well. I can’t believe she will be a senior in 17 days.  I will have all high school aged children next year.  Where has the time gone? I hope some of you reading this will think about this idea and you will start your own journals for your kids soon.

Instagram Feeds I love to Stalk

I would say Instagram is my favorite social media to browse when I have time.  It is just so pretty and quick to search through when I have a spare minute.  However, it it the one I probably do the worst at posting pictures or keeping followers.  I follow a large variety of genres from wedding, fitness, food, home decor, photography, and fashion.  I really like to see a broad range of pictures when I’m scanning through my feed. Today’s post is going to give you my favorite feeds.  They are really scattered and you may be surprised by the ones that interest me the most.

Check out some of my favorite Instagram feeds.

Check out some of my favorite Instagram feeds.

scstockshop– Shay is an amazing stylist.  She styles and photographs desk items, flowers, and art supplies.  I have purchased her work as a cover photo for my site.  A lot of her color schemes are pink.  They match my branding so you can imagine why I’m so drawn to her feed.

Dear Lillie–  This feed is beautiful.  She uses a lot of purple and gray.  Purple is my favorite color.  I used it in my wedding and I have always been drawn to that color.  Her signs she sells are amazing and I love how her feed looks when you scan down and see it as a whole.

Sugar Paper LA–  These ladies are my idols.  They have such amazing tastes it must ooze out of their pores.  I originally saw a picture of their office on pinterest and just had to know whose office it belonged to.  They designed the amazing Target Christmas wrap for 2015.  They also have a new office supply line coming out soon for Target.  I love everything they do.  Their colors match my branding so of course I love their feed.

Carly Cristman is the one fashion you tuber that I actually like.  Her feed is black and white and I’m so obsessed with her. As part of her job she handles social media for brands and I just think that is the coolest job. Check out her feed and how the pattern looks from her fashion to her home decor.

Mochi and the City– I’m in love with Mochi the Maltese.  She is more famous then most people on Instagram. She has more clothes than I do. I have a teacup Maltese and they really do look very similar.  I haven’t found many dogs that look like my Cupi, but this one looks so much like her. I literally love this dog.

Inspire_Me_Home_Decor – this site has pictures that flat out make your jaw drop.  I can’t believe some of the architecture and home decor that I see on this feed.  Even if you’re not a fan of home decor, I bet you would still like this feed.

Sweet Bake Shop– This account has some amazing looking snacks, but the colors are what I really like.  These pastels really make the site pop.  I love how the colors look like cotton candy and the backgrounds are just as important as the food being displayed.

Pizzazzerie–  Courtney does an amazing job of thinking up some of the best party ideas.  This party stylist and author’s feed will make you want to drop everything and get your party on.  Her pictures are so vibrant and gorgeous.  She can’t take a bad photo.

Emily Jackson–  Emily’s site has some great fashion, family, and travel pictures.  I really like how her feed tells a story.  she makes you want to get to know her and her family.  I don’t follow many feeds like this where they tell a story and you want to get to know someone’s family, but this one is really authentic and I love everything she posts.

Fashionable Hostess–  This is a newer find for me and I can’t believe I didn’t catch on earlier.  Now that I found it I’m a die hard fan.  I bet you will love it to once you catch a peek at Amanda’s feed.

the_real_houses_of_Ig– I’m sure you have heard of this site.  With over 1M followers this site isn’t playing around.  They have the best of the best homes and styled interiors that I’ve seen on Instagram.  You can get tons of ideas on decor, paint colors, lighting etc…  If you’re not already following you need to check it out.

healthyeating_jo– Jo’s feed is about the prettiest food you will come across.  It makes me want to eat better and actually cook dinner instead of ordering out.  I wish she was my personal chef.

I hope you found some interesting feeds throughout this post.  Even though I love interior design it isn’t the only thing that inspires me.  I love to have a huge variety of pretty pics to scan through at night.  Check out some of these feeds if you want some inspiration.  You can check out my instagram here.  I would love to have you follow along.

Items to Steal

I am excited to bring you tons of things I’ve been loving.  I have been so busy with some recent projects and being out of town that I haven’t posted.  I’m excited to get back to a regular posting schedule.  I’m itching to start a big project.  You know I’m always working on something around this house.  We are currently redoing our patio area (pictures to come when completed).  I am also thinking about doing our family room.  I’ve had some of that furniture for 20 years.  As a person who likes to change my hair with the seasons, I would say it is time for a change in that room.  Check back for the results of these projects in the coming months.

Items to Steal

  • If you don’t get Ballard Designs catalog you need to get on their mailing list.  Eddie Ross has created 3 looks in the May issue and they are freaking amazing.  If you haven’t checked out his book, Modern Mix, you need to rush out and get it.
  • This beach bag from Marimekko for Target is the perfect size for carrying your beach items.  I am a bag lover.  I have so many beach bags it’s a little obsessive.  I just had to have one more.  Of course it has to be cute, but this one cleans up well too which is a plus.
  • Hit the town in this gorgeous jumpsuit from Talbots.  You will look amazing in red. It can be worn to work by pairing it with a jacket.  However, it would also be a great piece to wear for an evening painting the town red.
  • I went to Amelia Island, Florida last week and had an amazing time. If you are in the area you have to eat dinner at David’s. It is a 5 course meal you won’t soon forget.  Thanks Ryan for taking us out to such a great restaurant.
  • I ordered some new pillows for my back porch from this Etsy store ElemenOPillows.  They are amazing.  Finding black 24″ pillows are harder to find then you think.
  • If You haven’t read Me Before You by Jojo Moyes you need to read it.  The movie comes out in early June.  I always have to read the book before seeing the movie.  The characters they chose look amazing.  It really bothers me when the characters I have in my mind don’t match the actors they choose for the movie.  I still never saw Rob Pattinson as Edward.  I was 100% team Jacob.  Now that boy is FINE.

On that note have a great week.  If you’ve tried a great new wine, found an amazing new outfit, or place to shop let me know.  I love to try new things. We can help each other break out of our comfort zones.

Jenn

Mother’s Day Brunch

What are some of your Mother’s Day traditions?  Do your kids get up super early and make you breakfast in bed?  Do you go out to eat and then visit your mom?  I love to know how other people spend their holidays.  When my kids were little they always made me breakfast in bed on a tray with beautiful flowers.  Then we would spend the whole day together with them being super sweet (no fighting).  I would pick all my favorites throughout the day.  Now they are teenagers and we are all clamoring for sleep. Now my favorite way to celebrate is sleeping in and having a more leisurely start to my day.  So I thought a Mother’s Day brunch as a family would be a perfect way to spend the day.  Here are some great ways to celebrate with your whole family. Starting off with a fabulous Mimosa bar for mom.

If you are looking to have an outdoor celebration or you want to try some bolder color choices, try this Marimekko collection for Target.  They have included several different color choices in their collection.  However, my outdoor furniture features black and white so I thought these were perfect to go with the decor I already own.
